World Metrology Day in China

    I am very pleased to give my support to the AQSIQ in its efforts to mark “Word Metrology Day” in China. The signing of the Metre Convention on 20 May in 1875 was the beginning of all that we have today in terms of world metrology. International trade, manufacturing industries, science, human health and safety as well as the protection of the environment all depend on accurate and reliable measurements. World wide uniformity of measurements exists because of the activities of the national metrology institutes in countries all round the world cooperating together under the Metre Convention. It is a very good thing that once a year on 20 May we draw attention to this small but crucial part of the infrastructure of todays world that is essential to the global economy.

中國世界計量日

    我非常高興並支持中國國家質檢總局（jú）在中國（guó）對“世界計量日”所作出的努力。1875年5月20日米製公（gōng）約的（de）簽署是我們今天世（shì）界計量日（rì）的（de）開始，國際貿（mào）易、工業生產、科學（xué）、人類健康和安全、以及環境保護都離不開（kāi）準確和可靠的計量。各國國家計量技術機構通過米製公約共同合作，使測量一致化。每年5月（yuè）20日大家都關注計量這一在當今世界中雖小但卻至關重要的基礎領域是（shì）非常有意義的，計量同時也是國際經濟發展的基礎。
